Case Study Information
Project Type: Channel Lining
Project Type (Other): Mining
Project Start Date: June 30, 2025
Project Objective:
The objective of this project is to protect the existing channel from surface erosion around the channel. Immediate action is required due to concerns that the existing soil will further loosen and cause surface erosion during the rainy season.
Project Location: Melak District, West Kutai Regency, East Kalimantan
Number of Installers: 6
Amount of Concrete Canvas Used: 1,330 m²
Roll Format: Bulk Roll
Type/Thickness: CCX-M
Layup Method: Transverse
Installation Process
Equipment used
- Excavator
- DT
- Water Truck
- Cutter/utility knife
- J-Pin 25 cm
- 30 mm stainless steel screws
Alternatives and Reasons for Choosing Concrete Canvas
Before Concrete Canvas, channels were lined with geomembranes, but they were very fragile and easily damaged. Concrete Canvas became the solution because it was easier, faster, and more durable to install than previous materials.
Environmental Conditions
The project is being carried out in the hauling road area so it is not possible to close the road access.
Land Preparation
Channel profile formation (re-shaping)
Installation, Bonding, and Sealing Methods
Concrete Canvas is pre-cut in the warehouse to the exact dimensions of the channel profile to be installed and then transported to the site using a DT. The CCX-M Concrete Canvas is installed transversely in the direction of the water flow. Fastening is done using 30 mm stainless steel screws with a 10 cm spacing at each overlap. Additionally, 25 cm long J-Pins are installed at each connection on the channel shoulder to ensure the Concrete Canvas adheres perfectly to the ground substrate.
Hydration Method
The hydration process is carried out using a hose connected to a water truck.
Installation Duration
Installation productivity reaches around 300-400 m² of Concrete Canvas per day.
Project Success
The project was deemed a success. The client was satisfied with the ease of application and will evaluate this success for installations at other locations.
