Case Study Information
Project Type: Channel Lining
Project Type (Other): Mining
Project Start Date: August 9, 2025
Project Objective:
The objective of this project is to protect the existing channel from surface erosion around the channel. Immediate action is required due to concerns that the existing soil will further loosen and cause surface erosion during the rainy season.
Project Location: Batu Sopang District, Paser Regency, East Kalimantan
Contractor: In-House Contractor
Number of Installers: 8
Client/Project Owner: Gold Mining Company in East Kalimantan Province
Amount of Concrete Canvas Used: 14,250 m²
Roll Format: Bulk Roll
Type/Thickness: CCX-M
Layup Method: Transverse
Installation Process
Equipment used
- Excavator
- Spreader Bars
- Water Truck
- Cutter/utility knife
- J-Pin 40 cm
- 30 mm stainless steel screws
Alternatives and Reasons for Choosing Concrete Canvas
Before Concrete Canvas, channels were constructed using used tires. However, in addition to being time-consuming to install, this material had a short lifespan and required regular maintenance to ensure the anchors were securely installed to prevent erosion during high water flows. Concrete Canvas became the solution because it was easier, faster, and more durable than previous materials.
Environmental Conditions
The project is being implemented in several reclamation areas where weather conditions can change rapidly. This requires solutions that are quickly implemented and able to withstand sudden environmental changes.
Land Preparation
- Vegetation clearing
- Land contour re-leveling and channel profile re-shaping
Installation, Bonding, and Sealing Methods
The Concrete Canvas CCX-M is installed transversely with overlapping joints aligned with the water flow. Fastening is done using 30 mm stainless steel screws spaced 10 cm apart on each overlap. Additionally, 40 cm long J-Pins are installed at each connection on the channel shoulder to ensure stability and ensure the Concrete Canvas adheres perfectly to the soil substrate.
Hydration Method
The hydration process is carried out using a hose connected to a water pump, with the water source coming from a nearby pond around the project site.
Installation Duration
Installation productivity reaches around 400-500 m² of Concrete Canvas per day.
Project Success
The project was deemed a success. The client was satisfied and plans to reorder annually for installation throughout the reclamation area.
