Channel Lining-Cibuni
Case Study Information

Project Type: Waterway Channel Remediation
Project Type (other): PLTM (Utility)

Project Start Date: August 2025

Project Objective:
The primary objective of this project is to repair and optimize a leaking waterway channel to make it watertight again.

Project Location: Bandung Regency, West Java.

Number of Installers: 6

Amount of Concrete Canvas Used: 1,045 m²

Roll Format: Bulk Roll

Type/Thickness: CCX-M

Layup Method: Transverse

Equipment used

  • Webbing Sling 3 meters x 2 tons
  • Excavator
  • Cutter/utility knife
  • Hammer
  • Dynabolt Stainless Steel 5cm
  • Sealant
  • 20 mm stainless steel screws

Alternatives and Reasons for Choosing Concrete Canvas

The repair plan considered was installing a geomembrane and/or re-lining the channel with cement. Considering the project's speed, comparable to installing the geomembrane and its strength, similar to cement, the client chose to repair the waterway channel with Concrete Canvas. Using Concrete Canvas can shorten the shutdown or shutdown time of the micro-hydro power plant.

Environmental Conditions

The project is being implemented in a rice paddy area. A road alongside the waterway canal can be used for equipment and material mobilization. The weather at this project site is often rainy in the afternoon.

Land Preparation

  • Cleaning waterways of debris from damaged channels
  • Refilling gaps in damaged channel walls/floors.

Installation, Bonding, and Sealing Methods

The CCX-M Concrete Canvas was installed transversely, covering the waterway channel profile. The Concrete Canvas was mobilized with an excavator for the pre-cutting process according to the length of the channel's transverse profile segment. The connection method used for this remediation project was a combination of screws and sealant. The sealant was applied to the section of concrete canvas to be overlapped, with an 8mm diameter extending to fit the channel profile. Then, the Concrete Canvas was overlapped with a new layer and screws were installed at the top of the concrete canvas overlap. The screws used were stainless steel screws with a length of 20mm, with a distance of 10cm between the screws installed at each overlap. Dynabolts with a length of 5cm and a diameter of 10mm were installed as fasteners for the concrete canvas to the existing channel, at the shoulders and floor of the channel.

Hydration Method

The hydration process is carried out using a hose connected to a water pump, with the water source coming from the nearest water channel around the waterway channel.

Installation Duration

This project was completed within 5 days, with installation productivity reaching approximately 209 m² of Concrete Canvas per day.

Project Success

The project was deemed successful, as evidenced by repeat purchases on this remediation project. The client was satisfied with the speed and ease of Concrete Canvas installation.

Measurable Success Indicators

The speed of installation of Concrete Canvas and the resulting reduction in seepage in the waterway channels which was previously a major problem for the client.
